Female education is the need of the hour. Without educating the women of the country we can’t hope for a developed nation. Women play a vital role in the all round progress of a country. If we want to make democracy successful, women must be educated. They are the real builders of happy homes. It is said that if we educate a man, we educate a man only, but if we educate a woman, we educate the whole family.

This highlights the importance of female education. Hence, it is necessary to give women a different kind of education from the one given to boys. Their education should be such as may enable them to discharge their duties in a proper way. From education they become fully matured in all the fields of life. Educated women are well aware of their duties and rights. They can contribute in the development of the country in the same way as men do.

With reference to the above need, the first women’s university in Uttar Pradesh will be established in Rae Bareli. The Union HRD Ministry has already written to the state government to provide land for the same. Ashok Thakur, Secretary, Higher Education Department, MHRD in his letter to Javed Usmani, UP Chief Secretary states that the decision to open one such university in Rae Bareli was taken because India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi used to represent this area in Parliament.

According to the sources, the university will embrace central status and will focus on research and higher studies. The Centre has sought around 500 acres of land from the state government. It is further interesting to note that there are highest number of women in UP, still there is no women’s university in the state so far in comparison to other states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Rajasthan, who already have women universities.
