University of Pune will install Anti-Plagiarism Software in PG Departments

In a move against plagiarism, University of Pune (UoP) has decided to install US based popular software’s to check plagiarism while assessing theses and dissertations submitted by doctoral research students of the university.

The decision was taken in the light of strict measures to promote new and independent researches by the university’s management council to stop plagiarism which represents work done by other person as one’s own contribution.

According to¬† Wasudev Gade, VC, University of Pune that the software would be installed in its various post-graduate departments of the university and affiliated colleges that conduct and assess doctoral research in various branches. The measure, seen as a first of sorts, is in keeping with the University Grant Commission’s (UGC) recommendations to check and detect “intentional and non-intentional” acts of plagiarism in submission of theses and dissertations for doctoral research, he added. Also, the software which is used internationally can go through huge databases to identify plagiarised portions of a work.
