Human Resource Development Ministry(MHRD) has decided to set up two new central universities in Motihari and Gaya. As per Kapil Sibal, the ministry has given its approval for establishment of a central university in Motihari, keeping in view demand of state chief minister Nitish Kumar.

in addition to it, the centre has also declared not to grant any additional funds for the new universities set up. A sum of Rs 240 crore allocated as initial capital for the university will, therefore, have to be divided between the two varsities.

Also, the Central Universities Act, 2009, will  be amended to enable opening of two central universities in Bihar as earlier it was only permissible  in the case of Jammu & Kashmir.

The reason for this establishment can also be due to its connectivity by air, rail and road. The Nitish Kumar has led Bihar government preferred Motihari – the place from where Mahatma Gandhi had launched his first agitation in India. Consequently, MHRD has cleared establishment of two universities in the state.
