IGNOU appoints Prof. Gopinath Pradhan as the new VC

Professor Gopinath Pradhan

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has appointed Professor Gopinath Pradhan as the interim Vice Chancellor (VC) . He will take over the charges from outgoing VC Prof. M. Aslam. He had been the Director of School of Social Sciences (SOSS) of the university since the year 2010 and a Professor of Economics and his areas of specialisations are Development Economics, Industrial Economics and Quantitative Economics.

Back in 1993, Prof. Pradhan joined IGNOU as a Reader in Economics and became a Professor in 1998. He has successfully completed 60 years of age. He has passed out in MA and done his Ph.D. in the subject from Odisha’s Sambalpur University in the year 1975 and 1984 respectively.

Various research projects pertaining to policy research and has contributed to capacity building training module, certificate programme launched by IGNOU in 2001 on Involuntary Resettlement and Rehabilitation, strengthening of local government in Madhya Pradeshhave been handled by him. He also has had many research papers published in International and National Journals.

He was a course coordinator for Ph.D. in Economics, principal coordinator for MA Economics and coordinator for the BA programme of IGNOU.
