National Eligibility And Entrance Test

The plans for having a single National Eligibility cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to MBBS and post-graduate medical courses throughout the country has been deferred by a year.

According to a submission made by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to Bombay High Court, NEET will not be implemented for the academic year 2012-13 but from the following year.

Earlier the Maharashtra state government, association of medical colleges ( AMC) and students had challenged the MCIs notifications on December 21, 2010 and November 11, 2011 for prescribing and finalising the syllabus for NEET in the Bombay High Court. The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court, Madras, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka High Courts had already stayed the conduct of the exam. The plea of petitioners was that since the syllabus is based on CBSE, it did not leave enough time for students to prepare themselves properly for the exam.

How ever based on the MCI submission the court was of the view with the deferment of the exam, students will not get stressed as they will get enough time to prepare themselves and all uncertainties will go.
