The 44 deemed universities facing the prospect of de-recognition have got a breather from the supreme court. The Union government has conveyed to the Supreme Court bench of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Deepak Verma that it will carry out a fresh reappraisal of their infrastructure and facilities.

Following the submission, the apex court gave the government two weeks to issue individual notices to each of the 44 deemed universities pointing out their respective deficiencies. The universities have been given 2 weeks’ time to submit their replies to the govt. notice.

The bench asked Attorney General G. Vahanvati to submit a comprehensive report on April 25. The matter will be taken up for hearing May 3.

Later in the day Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said, “We will issue show cause notice to all the deemed universities within a time frame for the de-recognition and the matter will be decided separately in each of the cases,” Sibal told reporters in Ne.
